Nice work on the buffet lagoon, Pawel! I like the superstitions that grow up around such an enigmatic objects. I imagine there are lots of theories that these are just a variant of reefer colonies. There's also plenty of to work in about the lagoons being connected to the nereids and their attempts to understand and perhaps interact with the humans and cetes who've recently arrived on Poseidon. I'm sure there are stories told about buffet lagoons being portals to adventure and all of that: visions, dreams, and just a gateway to the fantastic.

Thank you, it was good fun writing it and swimming in circles around the word "nereid" without saying it in every paragraph. I'm looking forward to learning what Jeff has in store for us regarding the nereids' relationship with the natives - not just those super isolated, genetically altered pods of not-really-humans-anymore, but natives as a whole. I tend to think that this relationship was developing at its own pace, not without hiccups but harmoniously enough, since the Planetfall - but then the newcomers came and the Recontact has put a sudden stop to it, even if perhaps only temporarily and definitely not everywhere. But year 2199 is a year of change and the Recontact edition of BP is to bring some tonal enhancements to some of its themes, I think.

I wonder how much the Whalesong Epic on Poseidon has been influenced by nereids, and how much it's drifted from the terrestrial one. Related, there's a question about how much human inclusion there is in the modified Whalesong as they become closer to the nereids. It's a large open area of the setting. Perhaps it's one that's best kept unofficial and not in the published material.

I imagine that for native cetes native humans are "almost cetes" when compared with newcomer landlubbers. So I tend to see Poseidon's Whalesong as being quite inclusive of the aquaforms, whereas Earth's Whalesong as being quite sectarian, with humans somewhere in the background, like a shoal always getting in the way.
