Pawel posted an Undercurrent article on GAFF, an organisation of freelance long-range transport people. I like it! It fills a gap between the local "mate with a van" solution for occasional bulky transport, and the scheduled ferries and air cargo routes carried out by Incorporates & GEO. I can see people with occasional but irregular need for bulky transport (like HIST) wanting to use a reputable company. I guess they avoid Incorp settlements mainly because there are enough scheduled services that there would be little demand for GAFF. In any case, they're only a CommCore call away!

I figured boomtown economy keeps shifting around the various business niches where smaller fish feed, but the major factor of geographical separation and small population count can still make independent operators competitive - apart from the Incorporate towns, I imagine. I'll try to come up with a small plot hook next. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations too! And everybody else's!

Population on Poseidon is something to be aware of, I think. In many ways, it's a small place. There are about two million people on the planet. 500,000 are in Haven and just under 200,000 are in various Incorp settlements, about another 110,000 in Harmony and Second Try. That doesn't leave too many people to form large centres elsewhere.
That means that I think there will be organisations that cover a large territory, as they need to in order to have enough customers to support the business. I think it's right that GAFF has fewer than 200 people, and most of those will be treating GAFF as one source of jobs among many.
As an adventure idea, GAFF hooks into a similar slot to Red Sky Charters. You get calls to do all manner of odd jobs across the Archipelago, so there's plenty of scope for distant places and interesting people.

Yup, I imagine GAFF's native core has many similarities with the Red Sky Charters, but the organisation's true face in 2199 is its online presence and unusually wide geographical reach thanks to its network of freelance operatives. RSC are successful enough to rely on its own brand and online visibility, such as it is. Many freelancers who are only just starting though, will find it beneficial to use GAFF's umbrella, without actually becoming somebody's formal employee. But absolutely, in terms of campaign types, GAFF and RSC offer the same type of adventuring. Which also happens to be one of my favourites.
