Hey, humans and cetes! Following the Q&A with Jeff the other day I've realised we're missing a thread where forum members would get to properly introduce themselves. So let's each of us say a few words about themselves! Tell us which planet (or zoom it down a bit, if you like) you're from, what do you do when you're not exploring Poseidon, how you'd found yourselves on these shores... Really, anything that comes to mind! It would be awesome to get to know you all!

I'll start. I'm Pawel, based in Edinburgh (Scotland). I'm originally from Poland, so please bear with me if I occasionally make a horrid linguistic slip-up. English ain't my mother tongue. I'm an IT dude by trade, though my education took me from let's-be-a-professional-swimmer-ormaybenot through a maths/physics/computing route down to oh so very many years of cross-cultural psychology. I've been submerged in the world of tabletop RPG since I turned 13 and I'm currently rocking my early 40s. My Blue Planet adventure started with the 1st edition and, frankly speaking, I've not been able to put it down since. I often dabble in Cyberpunk 2020 (and now RED), Shadowrun, Legend of the Five Rings, all kinds of (old) World of Darkness settings, Fading Suns, Degenesis, my wife's home-built fantasy setting, and oh my goodness probably dozens of other RPGs, but Blue Planet has been on the very top of my list of favourites from the moment I put my hands on the first corebook. Nice to meet you!!

I'm Neil, in Milton Keynes in the UK. I do my gaming in the Milton Keynes RPG club (we're still open, gaming online every week, all welcome). I've got a bit of a reputation for doing less-mainstream indie and story games, but I have a soft spot for games with deep backgrounds (Blue Planet, Glorantha, Tékumel). I came to Blue Planet with v2 and have run a short campaign and a bunch of one-off scenarios with it. I've recently run a short playtest campaign with the Recontact rules. I'm the admin of the Blue Planet wiki, so let me know if you want an account on there.

Hi, I’m Troy. I make my berth in Columbus, Ohio USA.
Discovered BP at the very start and just loved the blend of Sci-Fi/Old West vibe. So many sci-fi settings have everything functioning, or at least easy to repair or replace, and with help always in reach. BP though is Sci-Fi, but captures the “you’re on your own and need to make do with what you have” scenario that I’ve come to think of as being imperative for a good RPG setting.
I think I have every hard copy product ever produced for the game, two copies of all the v2 hardbacks, but I’ve never actually been able to PLAY the game, none of my friends were ever as into the waterworld setting as me. I have a new group now though, so hopefully when Recontact is in my hands...

Hello! I am Akos from the EU (Germany/Hungary). Blue Planet is one of the two favourite scifi RPG's. I usually have Second Try as my "home" setting. I am really looking forward to see the new edition, yay!
PS: Neil, I do a distance study at Open University in Milton Keynes. Next time I am there we can get in touch!

Hello all,
I am Jason, currently based in the UK working as a statistician for a government laboratory. I've played a fair few tabletop RPGs over the years, starting sometime in 1990 or thereabouts, but not much for the last decade or so (mainly due to kids). I have very vivid memories of reading the Inquest review of Blue Planet way back in 1997 or so and ordering it as soon as I could. I think I read half of it at home as soon as it arrived, and then half of it while in a hammock at a camp site on a beach in Spain. I've always enjoyed hard SF, and particularly anything to do with travel to other planets and exploration.
I've bought practically all of the Blue Planet products over the years (I missed the Redbrick short scenario pdfs, and wish there was still a way to get hold of them) but have sadly not played it as much as I would like. I have very little experience at GMing, so tended to not be the one choosing the games most of the time. I've played a few Con games (one by Gareth Hanrahan), though the couple of times I've made it to CONcrete Cow in Milton Keynes I don't think it was on the lists, and I tried running a couple of one-shots at university (one of which was an attempt to playtest the v2 rules). It's been top of my "most wanted to play" list for at least 20 years at this point...
Incidentally, I'm another OU graduate of sorts (Diploma, to fill in some gaps after starting work in an area tangential to my undergrad & postgrad studies).

Hey everyone! I'm, Aaron, reporting in from Maine, USA. I'm a machinist by trade, currently teaching machining and CNC programming at a local college. My gaming history sounds similar to Pawel's actually, gaming from a young age and the hobby remains. I think Pawel has similar taste for games to mine - Fading Suns, Degenesis, don't hear about those much these days but great settings both. Recently picked up Cyberpunk RED as well to replace my dog-eared 2020 edition! I've been playing BP since first edition grabbed me and it remains my favorite sci-fi setting, and I've played a few. My RPG collection is eclectic as I have a love for tabletop gaming, and try to pull as many into the hobby as I can. It's funny to me how many games I've kickstarted/picked up under the comment of 'Looking for a new Blue Planet' and never finding one, so I'm pretty thrilled I finally get one after all these years. I hope I can get my stubborn introvert self more involved in the online community! Great to be a part of this group for sure! Clearly all people with excellent taste in gaming.

Hey Aaron,
To quote a meme making rounds on the 'net from time to time, and seeing your RPG taste:
"Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well!" 😁😁
Great to have you on the forums!

There's three UK-based peeps and one from central Europe. That's almost enough for an online game, perhaps if we can rustle up another one or two.

I'm Andrew, live on the South Coast of England. I've been role-playing a fair few years, started back in 82'.... A gaming pack-rat, I've accumulated quite a few during that time, tend to only collect the core rules of a system, make up a couple of characters, then move on if that doesn't pique my interest. Blue Planet is one of the few systems I've actually read ALL the books for AND loved the setting. I've run a PBP game of it (V1... a scenario that was written for a ftf game convention game, that was optimistically *meant* to last 3-4 hours... ) as a PBP game it lasted well over year.. loved the "Hard-SF" mechanics of the v1 system, although the layout was a nightmare, making a complicated game that most players used to D&Dish games failed to grasp easily. Always a problem. However, I still love the setting, collected all of V2... running it 2-3 times and playing it only once... But have used the setting for Traveller, Call of Cthuhlu, Rolemaster and most recently 2d20 (using Mutant Chronicles). I'm still sitting on the fence with regard to the Kick-starter... but have run them using the quick start rules.. I'd be up for playing on-line

You still have 6 days to make up your mind regarding the Kickstarter - it's been a tremendous success, but it can always use more support from anyone interested in the narrative mechanics, revised tech, updated factions & social aspects of the setting, new campaign hooks - and, perhaps most importantly, all that amazing colourful art! Not trying to convince you, just very excited myself.
