Anyone find a good way to play online? I've considered Tabletop Simulator but everyone needs to own it. I even tried making some crappy little prototype Discord bots to but I could never come up with a good set of commands to manage it that didn't feel clunky.

I ran the Upwind using video chat and ... everyone had their own deck. I think we started with showing the cards fir each play. But once everyone understood how it worked I think we just talked through draws.
Roll20 has a basic card deck included which probably could be customized to have 2 decks per player but normal playing cards worked.

I've only played Upwind online a few times, but showing cards was what we've done as well.

Since asking originally my new favorite virtual tabletop is Foundry. It's incredibly extensible by writing your own modules in javascript. Unfortunately current support for cards is quite limited, but there's plans for better support in the future. I definitely want to put together an Upwind module once there's better support for card decks.

I'm aware I might be, *looks at calendar*, two years late, but I've figured out how to make a reasonably decent template for play surface over at playingcards.io. I got a file for it, that can be imported by users, if anyone knows a way for me to share it, I'd be happy to do so  . What sort of file is it? If it's something like a zip file, I could host it on the Blue Planet wiki: I think it's close enough!
