A recent conversation with a friend made me realize something, and in my research I found myself with more questions than answers. Do you know what is missing from all versions of Blue Planet? ...A picture of the planet. I flipped through old editions and then scanned through the Recontact PDFs and nope, never was there just a picture of the planet. The closest we get is a backdrop of Lesear Station from Recontact, you can see Poseidon in the background. If there's another image I've missed it, but I think that's the only one across the editions!
Weird, right?
The other thing I wanted to throw out there, for those of you more close to the production might know this, is there going to be a sort of map-pack that's downloadable for the new edition outside of the 'virtual table assets'? I noticed that other than the color spreads there wasn't a single whole-planet projection map, and I remember Mark Richardson posted on Twitter that he had built Poseidon entirely on GIS format which looked fantastic.

Hehe, you can also see Poseidon in the backdrop of the Proteus Landing artwork. Oh, and hey, you actually get to see it in its entire blue ball+white splotches splendour on the Kickstarter video. Man, I love that wee video & its narration. The whole planet projection map definitely exists, it just didn't make it into the book. We'll have to wait for it a bit still, but there's this "2nd wave" stretch goal: $70,000 - Map Card Player Handouts: At this level, we will convert the maps created for the game into US letter-sized, card stock player handouts. The collection will also include additional four-panel sets that can be assembled into larger versions of the major world maps and laid out on the table top to accessorize play. Backers will be given a POD code for at-cost purchase through DTRPG, but will be responsible for all shipping and at-cost printing fees. Backers will also be provided files that will allow them to print their own map panels or have them commercially produced at their local print shop.

I am not entirely sure I fully understand what it expected to be in that pack, but could we have that in A4 or even A3 format as well? I understand that Blue Planet is an American product, and that there is some manual work in generating the pages, but printing US Letter on A4 always distorts things a bit. A gigantic JPEG would actually be better as I then could select the area I am interested in and print that however I please.

I'm sure the part that mentions backers being provided with files means exactly that - high-res jpegs. I do look forward to printing those for my wall as well!

You're right, there it is in the Proteus Landing art, psh. Looked right past that blue ball! And I forgot about the video entirely! Oh heck I also forgot about all the stretch goals on the Kickstarter! Oh hell yeah I'd be printing out maps like crazy. Time to use the plotter at work and get some real big scale maps. I've a feeling we'll be getting digital assets for this game for years!

I thought that the Access Denied 1e screen included planetary maps imagery, using a Goode homolosine projection format??
