Thanks for contributing to our Undercurrents section, mrgroknroll! There are various "organic" aspects already present in commercial computing in BP in year 2199, from organic casings to organic (DNA) memory cores. And of course, with xenosilicates giving genetic engineers nearly unlimited scope of options, designing true life from scratch (rather than the crude hybrids of the past) is no longer a matter of if, but simply when. So yeah, a prototype computer that manages to leap over and leave behind the contemporary, commercially available logic cores running on quantum computing principles and using DNA "only" for storage, would of course be the newest holy grail for the ever hungry market. I bet it would get by those visionary nutcases from Lavender Organics. But hey, maybe it's a small native/dolphin-run start-up somewhere in the Floats and oh wow would all those Incorporate acquisition teams descend on them with a chorus of hungry screeching! Upstart next-stage tech is always a lovely status quo derailer. And of course artificial organic intelligence leads straight to the "do androids dream of electric sheep" theme, which I always find delightful.
