I’ve been mining BP for inspiration for an AD&D aquatic adventure set in the World of Greyhawk that I've been designing in earnest since the summer.
As part of that I’ve also revisited some favorite aquatic SF inspirations, including (for our purposes here) these SF stories:
- James H. Schmitz’s _The Demon Breed_/“The Tuvela”, and “Trouble Tide” - Frank Herbert’s Pandora novels, and _The Dragon in the Sea_/“Under Pressure”
What SF authors do you turn to for BP inspiration?
Allan.

I've recently gone again through some of the Expanse books. Not really waterworld-based setting, but excellent hard sf with perhaps some similarities to be found in its alien mysteries.

I picked up the first 8 of those over the summer at a local used books store, but haven’t begun them yet.

I think I asked this on the BP list long before recontact and got some suggestions there: I think Reefsong by Carol Severance | LibraryThing is outright brilliant for Blue Planet, change the name of the planet and you are set on the right hydrofoil. I was also recommended Startide Rising by David Brin | LibraryThing but it is the second book in the series but this was not apparent to me until about halfway through, but when I realised that a lot of references made more sense. I don't remember much about it but there are uplifted dolphins.

Blueheart by Alison Sinclair is another book that has a lot in common with the Blue Planet background. It's been a while since I read it, but IIRC is a Native-centric book.

Anyone familiar with Tyler Jones’ _Heavy Oceans_, by chance?: a.co/d/8SaPYnHAllan.
