The last update spoke about OrcaCon, of which I know nothing, but it got me interested. Are there any conventions one can join from remote, e.g. Discord, to play Blue Planet? Should some of the backers be talked into hosting a session or two? Is there some PBEM to play BP? I GM'ed a campaign many years ago but would be fun to play.

Huh, as a complete newbie in the topic, I'm compelled to ask - are there RPG conventions out there that can be attended remotely? I suppose in a post-covid world something like this make senses, but must be hard to organise! I've never played RPG online, so it's an uncharted territory to me, but yeah, it does seem to be rather popular these days - which is great for the hobby!

I don't know, it was kind of the question. A friend of mine plays a lot of Shadowrun via e.g. Discord. I adore that concept: someone posts on a forum "I need 4 runners for a run; a decker, a chaos mage, a troll street samuraj and a dwarf face", which translates to "I want to GM a scenario which needs four players and the characters need to be…". Then the forumites present their respective characters – just like they would do in-world – and the GM/Fixer selects who gets the job. A time for the session is established and then four players, who don't know each other, play with a GM they never have met. So. Very. Perfectly. Shadowrun. 🤩

I've been lurking at the very bottom of the ocean in the at Discord, and it seems it is more traffic there then here, but less chatter here. I don't care much about the platform (ok, a bit…), but was more looking for something happening.

Yeah, not too many visitors in either venue these days, but here's hoping that'll change once the pdfs are complete!

IMHO, although I have on experience with online convention game, but did online gaming.
Online play is ok, but for it is a far cry from the real one. As a GM I prefer max. 4 players, but 3 is optimal for me; and in online sessions it take much more energy to do to manage my players.
I do not use any tools, but BPV2 is the maximum on complexity I like. Shadowrun my differ here. I am also notorious to kick out munchkins from my group if they are unreasonable, so take my advice with salt.
I think Shadowrun is uniquely suited for “four strangers” play (as the old D&D saying goes: a thief, a mage, a priest and a warrior meet in a tavern...). In other games it may prove problematic to form a group without group discussion. For pre-generated, or pre-oredered (need 1 x, 1 y, etc.) characters this is not a problem.
Hope it helps a bit.

Oh yeah, default Shadowrun is pretty much always a "mercs band together for a heist" sort of campaign setting. Most other RPGs require plenty of work (so sessions zero, prerequisite character aspects, etc.) to build party cohesion. By the way, I believe we're about to see the proofreading preview of all campaign archetypes in this month's BP: Recontact Kickstarter update!

Wait there's a Blue Planet Discord now? Heck. Someone please drag me out of the 20th century already.
...though I did admit to playing with ChatGPT to create a random-BP-adventure generator...

Haha, and how did that ChatGPT generator work out? I imagine it might possibly work as a good brain-teaser inspiration sorta thing...

By the way, this should link you to the Gallant Knight Games (Biohazard's publishing partner) where the Blue Planet section is!

Just opened discord in my browser and said I didn't have access to that channel! As for your earlier question, ChatGPT worked surprisingly well. It required me to explain a lot of details but the more I told it, the better the adventure seeds I got. I had this whole session where I explained to the AI what 'Long John' and 'Xenosilicate' were and then the expected themes of the game and it sort of went from there. Was not good at crafting a good mystery scenario though. I might need to revisit it!

The Gallant Knight Discord has been rearranged, read the notice in #general about the new roles and channels, posted 2023-12-31 by "Alan (GKG)". I found a discord invite link at the Patreon info page: discord.gg/jKYPCFV

There are plenty of online cons still going on (though less than during Covid restrictions). I don't know about other lands, but here's a list of UK RPG cons, including the virtual ones. As well as that, the Raspy Raven is a UK online community of gamers that does "seasons" of themed games. If we could get enough commitment, we could offer to put on a few games of Blue Planet there over the space of a week or two.
