Hey fellow mammals, July Blue Planet Kickstarter update is live! And in it... - a taster of backer-only proofreading previews of the gazeteer and biomod chapters of the books (which we're about to get to see in a few days - I'm super excited!) - an awesome piece of feedback from our Swedish community, where a 22 year old campaign has recently come to an end - another exciting Storm Surge playtest report

I noticed there were no mentioning on time plan on when it might be time to print. I am particular curious about if it will happen around the US Black Friday and later Christmas, since everyone else also want to clog up the shipping lines by that time.

I am particular curious about if it will happen around the US Black Friday and later Christmas, since everyone else also want to clog up the shipping lines by that time. I don't think Jeff's willing to announce any solid dates yet, as there's still some fluidity in the remaining stages of the project. Having said that, it does feel like the final stretch of the race now, far as I see it. Copying/pasting from Gallant Knight Games Discord: "We are in the final editing/chapter layout phase. The editor is doing her final edits, I then do a final review of those, and pass the files on to the layout artist. He drafts each section layout and we go back and forth making changes and adjustments. As the chapters are finished I share them out to backers who are interested in helping find errors. It's more a collection of circles as I go back and forth with the editing and layout. The key is that we are all working in parallel rather than series so we compress the production timeline. Once those corrections are made, the chapters will be compiled into books, and print files will be sent to the printer. They will provide proofs, we will approve or ask for corrections and once completed the books will be printed and shipped. Then we hit the stretch goals in earnest.|

That is not something I find strange at all, but given the project is (at least) a year late it would be nice to have a rough time plan for the various activities. To me, it would be enough for a statement like "shipping before Christmas is reasonable and plausible" or "sending it to the printers next spring". The downside with giving too och too rough long time plans is that many might be upset. Given the current speed of chapters I doubt it will be sent to the printers before Christmas. There are two-three chapters per month with no chapter is finished yet, and if I understood the Discord post you gave correctly, there is still text to be written. From that they send to printers to shipping starts, would that be one, two or three months? Shipping will take two to three months, based on my experience from other projects. I would hazard a guess at that the shipping starts in March/April next year.

And we're about to get in our hands a massive amount of text to proofread very soon. By my count the gazeteer section alone is about 150 pages.

Looks really nice! The only thing I am missing the the small "displays" for page numbers from v2. It was a nice touch.

I'm just looking to be able to late back the kickstarter! Just a matter of time, Mordante. Here's hoping it won't take much longer.

You know it just occurred to me today, eagerly awaiting the preview chapters, I wonder how much the gazetteer (and really, the books on the whole) is going to contain with respect to all the previous content from the main books plus the supplements. That's got to be a difficult editing job!

That's got to be a difficult editing job! I'm pretty sure there's gonna be bits from Ancient Echoes (Philadelpia) added and, most importantly, Outland, the Endeavor Islands! But it's not just the big new content that this is all about. Jeff's reviewing literally every single sentence of the entirety of Blue Planet (that's gonna fit in these two books). There are species entries in the Bio-Survey chapter that have, for example, just a single or two sentences changed, simply to fix/improve the tonal aspect of one paragraph. It blows my mind how much work there's been put to get all of this done.

Not like the old v2 books aren't still totally useable with gentle edits for the new lexicon.

The gazetteer chapter is huge. Good to see! I spotted a couple of name changes. Böse Strand is now Höllenstrand, and Dyfed is now spelt correctly! I wonder if Jeff has a list of these name changes from v2 to Recontact?
Back to the reading..!

I wonder if Jeff has a list of these name changes from v2 to Recontact? Back to the reading..! That would be a huge list, as there are so many changes! It's not just place names (like the Cluster area of Atlantis now being called the Block) but also NPCs, factions, pretty much no stone unturned. Some things I can see have reverted from how they looked in the Quickstart - the Gorchoff syndicate is called exactly that again, whereas in the Quickstart they were Gorshkov. But yeah, huge chapter. I'm taking my time. Only got through New Hawaii so far. Looking forward to your bit, Neil!
