Hey fellow mammals, Our resident cartographer, Mark, is in the process of finalising the Outback map, with pretty much all the Backer-suggested names now in their probably-final positions. Will update this once final version is confirmed.

Those of you that have suggested names, what did you use for inspiration for the names? I was tempted to back on that level but didn't think I would come up with a worthy name, hence my curiosity.

You don't want to know how many local place names I put into that map. (One perk of writing the stretch goal material for that region.) I also submitted a couple of technical terms as the KS perk, but I'm not sure they made it to this map.

'Worthy' is a relative term, mine was very silly! I've kept the same gaming group off and on since high school (argh), and though our lives have moved on we still try to get together now and then to play games - thank you Zoom. It was this group, back in the late 90s that I used to run Blue Planet for. Back in those days we'd game way too late at night, even though all of us worked full time, so we all tended to get pretty damn tired by session's end. One of these times, I recall asking 'Well what time is it anyway?' and one of my players tried to say 'Ten past twelve' but she was basically half asleep, so blurted way too loud 'TEMPUS WELVE'. We all had a good laugh and then later named a drink after it, and it just brings back memories of playing RPGs together growing up! So there you go folks, Tempus Welve Abyssal. :>

Glorantha, the setting, was created by Greg Stafford. In Glorantha, in the Holy Country, the largest city is called Nochet.
Back in the day, Greg's gaming group were the first people to "explore" the Holy Country. One of the players pointed to the large city on the map and asked, "Does this place have a name?"
Greg replied, "Not yet."
The name stuck.
There are many more examples from Glorantha, including one large piece of geography being literally the result of a lucky dice roll in a wargame. "Worthy" names have a long history!
