Every now and then I ask for suggestions for music that is played on Poseidon, i.e. that can be used as background music while playing. What are your suggestions?
I presume that the music in the corp factories are either very "morale boosting" uplifting music about the benefit of hard work (corp HR and PR approved, played on the official channels, including the "underground" channels run by the corp – like the "craft beer" breweries run by the big breweries today) but also very hard EBM/techno with a lot of sound inspiration from the factories (like the origins of the techno in the 60ies Germany).
Natives would probably use acoustic instruments due to lack of electronics, but a large potion would be "back to roots", i.e. rock, pop and folk from Earth. Probably a whole subgenre about nostalgia and remorse over Abandonment.

Probably a whole subgenre about nostalgia and remorse over Abandonment. These would definitely work in the setting, I think. Neofolk among the natives is mentioned occasionally in the lore, and reggae gets a mention too in a couple paragraphs about NRM (not sure if that aesthetic is gonna remain valid for NGC, though I imagine it easily could). But the answer to your call probably depends on GMing styles too. I myself tend to play various ambient tracks most of the time, focusing on the environment (or sometimes circumstances) where the characters are currently in. So I'd only attempt to play actual songs if the characters went to some sort of tavern or a concert, etc. I use the OST from Waterworld (only some tracks, depending on what atmosphere I wanna convey) and the Big Blue for my general outdoors atmosphere. I sometimes use some tracks from James Cameron's Avatar too. Hmm, that's probably the only movies - everything else is videogames. I have an OST from a defunct game called Firefall that fits the aesthetic well, I think. I will occasionally use some tracks from the two recent Deus Exes and an indie game called Technobabylon. And of course Subnautica too. For some more high-tech synth sound I go for Eve Online and Grey Goo. For urban tension tracks I use Mirror's Edge Catalyst. Oh, actually also the TV show Travellers.

I can imagine lots of k-pop type songs in most well-to-do towns, especially given the existing rise of virutal pop stars in Japan and maybe Korea. Lots of bland, uplifting poppy nonsense that's fun while it lasts and is instantly forgettable.
Then there's all the music that can be made by people, with AI/gremlin support, and instruments played by neural interface. Imagine a piano where you're not limited by the spread of fingers, or a saxophone where you don't need to move your fingers from key to key. That suggests lots of avant-guard stuff like some of the more ... cutting-edge jazz that's all lots of notes played quickly. One person could play and the gremlins could improvise and fill in the rest of the parts while they're doing it.

I like that idea, anyone that has a Spotify playlist with examples? I need to feed the algorithms and make them forget some of the genres I played a few months ago... 😏
