Hey fellow mammals, As some of you may have seen in the Kickstarter update, the draft of the updated Blue Planet timeline has now been made available for all to see! Plenty of small but important tweaks to be found there. I haven't gone through it all yet (busy day at work), but I can see "climate change" expression being mentioned three times as opposed to zero times in the original timeline (ah, the world did look to be a better, healthier place 20 years ago). You can find the draft doc here. How many updates can you spot?

Oh man I've been itching to read the updated timeline. What a ride! I thought the tone was...more stressful. Darker even! But it makes sense given the unexpected curves life took between the 90s and now! Definitely far, far more environmental-based climate catastrophes going on in the future Earth than in the original. It's like now, 'Okay the Blight is happening but an entire country just got swallowed by the ocean sooooo.....' They also pushed forward a bunch of things like the first fusion reaction and things like that. They also now have mentions of things like more common AI, household robots, medical drones, etc. DNA storage went from 50G to 100TB. Mild update! Considering a 2TB drive fits on a chip now. :> I noticed a few curious omissions as well as changes. The EU passing the 'Marriage Laws Reform' definitely made me look back to see if it was in the original! I was amused by my own reaction about the note we establish a Mars base by 2033. I said in my head, 'So soon?' I do like how future-Sweden will run on a crypto-currency just to tuck that relevance in! I saw the Hybrid Reservation moved from Africa to Canada, which I double-took on. It also leaves out a lot of talk about the hybrids going to Poseidon. I seem to recall the original timeline barely mentions hybrids at all though, it was more in the lore text. The GEO's polish is really scrubbed off a bit in this timeline. There are more mentions of its problems, making it a lot less of a white-hat organization in this version. Overall it feels like the new timeline is much more of a powder keg waiting to explode! What a tense mood.

What a tense mood. Yeah, it kinda feels personal to be reading the new timeline and digesting all the stuff we've been through recently as part of our RPG immersion! Curiously, Silvas are now a Biogene rogue product whereas there's no mention of Cats - though they'll be there. I just reckon they'll have a different origin story. We have more warfare too and GEO is indeed getting its shade of grade slightly darkened here and there. I really liked the growing discord on Poseidon way before the Recontact too. Things like this timeline are really the meat of the new edition, aren't they? It's not just the awesome new art (now in technicolor!) and tech, but also so very many big and small updates for the entire setting. I am beyond excited!!

Ah, personal! That's the word! Yes it felt very personal. Really grabbed me. I wonder if we're going to see like an alpha pdf of the text before its out?

I imagine Jeff will announce via the KS update once the raw text is ready for proof-reading. I'll make noise about it here too. It will have gone through editing already, but the more eyes scan the text, the better.

Right on. I know he mentioned it in the update but I'm really glad Jeff & company feel appreciated for all the work they're doing for us fans. And as an afterthought, as I've been toying with it, I really believe the Synergy Evolved system could be a big thing. I'm thinking of the crazy explosion of success that Free League had with their 'Year Zero' system in recent years, Synergy could be the next hit for community gamers retooling for different settings.

Hello guys!
Nice to read some advancement in the project!
Just a few things and thoughts about the timeline : - Louise Brown, the first "tube baby" is not "Mary" Louise Brown ! Or is it intentional ? - Nothing to say between 1996 and 2011 ? Really ? Like... er... you know... this petty little incident on the World Trade Center in NYC ? And all the international mess and wars following this ? - 2012: Why not mentioning the names of Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier (2 women Nobel Price 2020) as co-discoverers of the crisr-casp9 genetic technique ? In fact, as far as I know,E. Charpentier was mainly in the Department of Regulation in Infection Biology in the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Germany at the time of the "discovery"... NOT an american lab for once... ;-b
As I say, just some thoughts about pas events...
Anyway, looking forward for the release of BP:Recontact !

The timeline is one of the items that really drew me into BP before its initial publication as well (in addition to the wonderful “Deep Shit” convention scenario).
I will pull Jason's file down and dig in over the next week =)
Allan.
