So while doing some cleaning I came across a copy of the book 'A Seal Called Andre' and I got to thinking, now there would be an amusing thought experiment in the wilds of Poseidon. Consider if you will: On Earth, the domestication of wolves into the species we know as dogs is easily up there on the list of greatest human inventions. But on a waterworld like Poseidon, it would be damn interesting if there was some sort of project to domesticate pinnipeds. While it would take multiple generations to do so, the benefits of having water-friendly companion / utility animals would be pretty clear. I can imagine some corpo entrepreneur with more money than sense setting up a quasi-'scientific' project to test the viability of breeding and domesticating seals on the waterworld. And if it just so happens that these become the pet to have that everyone has to have one, well...

I bet there are scientists out there still very much invested in deepening humanity's knowledge of traditional learning and conditioning processes, generational relay, etc. And Incorps can play the long game too if needed, but I imagine they also like to turn profit asap. A few gene tweaks here and there, some hormonal work, maybe a wee neural chip and you get the friendliest seal possible following you around like a literal puppy. But what's the coolest and most outlandish fur colour for your pet seal this season?

Spinning it out, there's strong pressure to grow more food on Poseidon. Which animals are there which could be domesticated into farm animals? They could be used for meat, other body parts (e.g. leather), or ongoing products like eggs. We know that basilisks and trilobites are used for pest control in some places, and subursts are hunted for their skins. But what large-ish herbivores are herded on farms, or on remote "pastures" like Terrestrial sheep?

I think iguana are supposed to be the cattle of Poseidon, but yeah, on Prime Meridian there's definitely space for some more traditional cowboy stuff.

Okay so when I read this I could have sworn there were domesticated turtles on Poseidon and it took me forever to figure out why I though that. About when I remembered the PDF rulebooks were searchable. (sigh!) Natural Selection mentions the domesticated turtle-manatee things called 'Weedeaters' which are like...aquatic cattle. Oh and the player's guide text totally mentions that Second Try colonists 'domesticated' native fish as a food source as well. Which is good. Everyone loves space cowboys. Even if they're space scuba cowboys.
