I'm going through my old V2 books at the moment and a thought occurred to me.
Technology predictions are where sci fi often shows its age. Predictions of 2000 may seem laughably optimistic or pessimistic in 2019 (I still want my personal ducted fan flyer, thank you).
So, I wondered what people thought:
Which bits of BP technology seem prescient? Which bits are looking less accurate and might want to be looked at?
I haven't got that far and have no real thoughts on this so thought I'd throw it out to the forum.

You know I had been thinking about this not long ago, less in terms of the technology predictions but the naming conventions. For instance, BP has 'bodycomps' which absolutely came true, we all carry them. We call these smartphones, despite the fact that 'smartphone' is a woefully inadequate descriptor for what the little gidgets we carry are. Obviously a few items from the setting just need the most mild of updates, like storage capacities being underwhelming and that kind of thing. (A 1TB dataspike? A 1TB sd card is smaller than your fingernail...) The whole reason I was thinking about it is that I had a chuckle thinking about myself streaming a podcast about Blue Planet using technology about as good as BP hinted at - a tiny touchscreen supercomputer at all times connected to the internet, listening to it through wireless headphones, all of which I can operate by talking to it. Where's my damn genetic redesign though?

Gremlins ere also quite prescient. Gotta love Siri and Google Talk, also downloadable 'skills'. "Sorry, I don't understand that command."

The one thing I've noticed in the BPR Quickstart is that the equipment section now contains "models" category for most types of gear. What an absolutely delightful addition!!! <3 All those old CP2020 Chromebooks immediately come to mind. This kind of info adds a great layer of lore immersion. And, wow, some of these models are such nuggets of naming gold, I mean, honestly, these are just brilliant: - a spear gun model: Hydrospan AnthroThreat - an immunological symbiote model: MedLine Amebo <3 - a CICADA model: Hydrospan PodMate LX - heeey, and we have a nod to the old naming convention of the VIs: Nippon Networks Oni Class Bodycomp

Yes, I liked the models very much too! Gives a great versimilitude to the world.
